Top tips for packing your storeroom

See below our top tips for packing and storing your goods.

1. Use floor to ceiling space in your storage unit.
2. Don’t over-pack your boxes making them too heavy to lift.
3. Use the same size boxes where possible. It makes for easier stacking and packing in your unit.
4. Defrost fridges and freezers and ensure they are dry before placing in storage to prevent mildew and nasty smells.

5. Put the items you don’t need to access regularly at the back of your unit.
6. If you need regular access to all of your items, consider renting a larger unit and leaving walkways for easy access.
7. Once you have wardrobes and drawers in your unit, you can store smaller, fragile items in them. Just remember to take them out before moving the furniture again!

8. Make sure all fabrics i.e clothes, curtains, duvets, are fully dry beforeplacing in storage. This will prevent damp.
9. Clothes can be stored hanging up. We sell wardrobe boxes. They are also handy for when you move into your new home if you don’t have wardrobes yet, your clothes can stay hanging up and organized.
10. Wrap glasses, plates and cups individually in tissue paper or bubble wrap, and stack them into each other. Smaller boxes are the best for these items as they get very heavy, very quickly. Our Budi and Asha boxes are ideal for packing kitchen items.

11. Store lampshades separately to the base of your lamp. This helps to prevent damage.
12. Stack your books and avoid standing them on end as this can damage the spine. Our Budi boxes are the perfect size for storing books.
13. Garden tools should be clean and dry when storing. This prevents transferring anything from outside, inside.
14. Make an inventory of what you are putting into storage.
15. Label your boxes, front, side and top. Once boxes are stacked on top of each other , you won’t be able to see what you wrote on the top.

Storage

Why do you need storage?

Customers rent a storeroom in Elephant storage when they are getting their homes ready to put on the market, moving house, downsizing, travelling abroad or when there is a loss of a loved one. When putting your home on the market you make sure it looks it’s absolute best.   The garden is cleared up, inside painted, maybe some broken door handles fixed and carpets cleaned.   Make your property look spacious, by renting a small storage locker or our popular walk-in wardrobe. Put away a camp bed, boxes of winter clothes and a record collection or items you don’t use regularly. Lockers start from €10 per week, using a storage locker could add on €1,000s to the price of your home.

When moving home and your new house isn’t ready, some young couples move back with mum and dad, with young children or move into rented accommodation.  Renting storage for furniture/ kitchen utensils or any personnel items in one place will be convenient and easy for moving. You can access your storage as you need to.

Retired couples are looking to downsize the large family home after the children have fled the nest. Downsizing means selling off furniture but also keeping the valuable or sentimental pieces to pass down to children. Until the family are ready to take the furniture, a storage room is a good solution to keep the furniture safe.

Whether you are moving, travelling or need more room at home. Renting a room in Elephant Storage, is made easy with our expert storage advisors to help solve your storage problems. Storage Solutions

Storage solutions for clutter.

Decluttering your home for whatever reason can be stressful but it has been proven that a clean living environment promotes a healthy life “clean your house and your mind will follow”.

Often when a personal space becomes over run with belongings a person can feel distracted and unable to relax, by promoting some simple storage solutions you can free up space both physically and mentally.
When decluttering your home use the three pile rule, a pile for rubbish, a pile to donate and a pile to keep, don’t leave room for maybes.

Declutter for a cause, meaning using the space that is being used as a holding area for the kids toys while there of at college with an indefinite return as a possible spare room or dedicate it to a hobby, a craft room , a home gym, so much more than it is now.
Organization is key, a simple storage solution is picking up some storage boxes and labeling them, this can clear up a lot of space and also give you piece of mind knowing if you do need something it is just at an arm’s reach and you no longer need to pull the house apart causing more chaos and likely more clutter.

Collecting is still a very popular hobby and one that can be passed down through generations, treat your goods with the same time, effort and care now as you did when your first acquired them don’t allow them to become clutter and discarded over time. Storage can be used for so many things, when conquering clutter and using various storage solutions it can only have a positive effect.

Why not reclaim your space today and invest in a personal locker for €10 / €20 per week at Elephant Self Storage keeping those extra items out of sight but still easily accessible.
